Both the City and SRHF have a variety of volunteer opportunities and
are always looking for people with time and interest. Come join
our active and interesting group of volunteers. Learn about the agriculture
history of our valley, make new friends, participate
in the programs, and contribute your thoughts and ideas as we develop
Forest Home Farms for now and the future. We have a variety of projects
to suit everyone's interest.
It's fun, it's exciting, it's rewarding.
Foundation Volunteer Needs
The Foundation is the money raising arm for the Forest Home Farms Historic
Park. We raise money to sponsor events or provide financial support
when needed. Our board currently has 12 members. We meet the last Wednesday
of every month at 7:00 p.m. We are looking for volunteers with skill
or interest in money raising, data processing, or have good community
contacts to build support for our financial needs.
As the SRHF continues to build and develop our new Auxiliary, we will
be talking over several of the events previously run by the City.
We always need volunteers to help help with craft tables, ticket taking,
parking, setup, cleanup, and various other tasks. These events include:
- Sheep Shearing
- Ice Cream Social
- Holiday on the Farm (partnering with the City)
- Traditional evens, such as our Victorian Tea and Crab Feed.
Victorian Tea Committee
The Victorian Tea is one of our most popular events. Volunteers can
work on the planning committee or one of several subcommittees to help
with decorations, entertainment, gathering food or raffle donations,
or vendor coordination. On the day of the tea, we need kitchen help to
prepare the plates, make tea, or help with cleanup. The committee spends
about six months planning and working on the event from about March or
April through the event which is held in September each year. We have
LOTS of fun!
Crab Feed
Every January or February, we hold our popular Crab Feed. Volunteers
are always needed to help plan and work this fun event.
City Volunteer Needs
- Lead one hour tours of the Forest Home Farms Historic Park
or Glass House Museum
- Greet visitors in the Welcome Center
- Work with the restoration of tractors
- Special Events
- Garden Volunteers
- Spring and Fall Cleanup
- Be a docent in the popular Third Grade Field Trip Program

Education Docents
If you are available weekday
mornings and enjoy working with children, this is a fun program. We have
3rd graders coming to the farm for a three and 1/2 hour program to learn
about early life on the farm. The program runs five months a year, October,
November, March, April, and May.
History Volunteers
Forest Home Farms Historic Park is looking for a few good historic researchers to research
information about the early residents of the San Ramon Valley. In addition,
we have a group of volunteers who do Oral Histories on San Ramon Pioneers.
If you are interested in history, then these volunteer opportunities will be
right up your alley.
Tractor Volunteers
Our active group of tractor volunteers helps with restoration of tractors
and we currently have an impressive display in our large barn. These volunteers
also operate tractors occasionally in parades, help disc the fields at Forest
Home Farms, and move tractors around for special events at the farm.
Garden Volunteers
Garden Volunteers help maintain our vegetable garden, maintain and help expand
our California native wildlife garden, work in our herb garden, help manage
groups of people on our twice-yearly large volunteer work days, and if interested,
can be Garden Docents for the 3rd grade education program. We have garden work
days every Tuesday afternoon and usually once a month on Saturdays or Sundays.
